Description
Whitby harbour, North Yorkshire. West Cliff and Whitby lower harbor at low tide. Iconic view of the West Cliff and protected harbour of the famous fishing port of Whitby. Wharves and docks of the lower town and the steep cliffs are seen from across the water. A pier extends into the harbor, adding protection for fishing boats and pleasure yachts from the treacherous North Seas. The economy of the seaside town in North Yorkshire on England's North Sea is mainly tourism but there are still thriving fisheries. Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula, was set in this old town at the mouth of the River Esk.
