Description
European water vole, Arvicola amphibius. This cute native British animal is peeping out from a clay pipe beside a small pond. Water voles are semi-aquatic rodents. These pretty little inhabitants of the banks of streams and ponds are a declining population in England due to destruction of habitat and an increase of predators. They are now a protected species and are part of a captive breeding and release project based in Devon.
