Description
Whalebone arch, West Cliff, Whitby, North Yorkshire. East Cliff and Whitby harbour, viewed through the famous whalebone arch on top of West Cliff. The hilltop ruins of Whitby Abbey and historic St Mary's Church overlook the waterfront and protected lower harbor. The economy of the seaside town in North Yorkshire on England's North Sea is mainly tourism but there are still thriving fisheries. Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula, was set in this old town at the mouth of the River Esk.
